One of the hazards of using WordPress and having a successful blog is that you become a major target for comment spammers. Current versions of WordPress come with the Akismet installed by default which, once activated with your WordPress.com API Key, uses a unique algorithm combined with a community-created database to “learn” which comments are comment spam and which are legitimate. All in all Akismet works pretty well and does the job.

I do have a few sites, however, on which I haven’t implemented Akismet for various reasons and I’ve just been manually flushing out all the latest spammed comment attempts. Some of the comments made me chuckle so I thought I would share a few on here:

dangerous braggadocio. Better to simply slip away. – Posted on a a Scottish B & B site

always been to be a mercenary, like your kind self. A man of war, armed and secure, – Also posted on a Scottish B & B Site
Not many people think the same way as you. That includes me.. sorry – ferry ticket site

Great posting. Thanks for useful information. – This one appeared on the default “Hello world!” post in WordPress!

I would like to thank you for the endeavors you have made in writing this article. I am going for the same best work from you in the future as well. In fact your creative writing abilities has urged me to start my own blog now. Genuinely the blogging is distributing its wings rapidly. Your write up is a fine illustration of it. – post about ferries from UK to Denmark

Do you want a fresh joke from net? The dreaded Amish flu: First you get a little hoarse. Then you get a little buggy. – This made me laugh, on another ‘hello world’ post

What did one ocean say to the other ocean? Nothing, they just waved. – Another joke sent my way

I adore the valuable history you offer in your articles. I will bookmark your site and have my children check up here oftentimes. I am rather sure they will learn lots of new stuff here than anybody else! – this was on a post about post-natal depression so not sure what kind of parent this person is!

I will show my brother this tonight, he will love it. – article about the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival
