One of the hazards of using WordPress and having a successful blog is that you become a major target for comment spammers. Current versions of WordPress come with the Akismet installed by default which, once activated with your WordPress.com API Key, uses a unique algorithm combined with a community-created database to “learn” which comments are comment spam and which are legitimate. All in all Akismet works pretty well and does the job.
I do have a few sites, however, on which I haven’t implemented Akismet for various reasons and I’ve just been manually flushing out all the latest spammed comment attempts. Some of the comments made me chuckle so I thought I would share a few on here:
dangerous braggadocio. Better to simply slip away. – Posted on a a Scottish B & B site

I adore the valuable history you offer in your articles. I will bookmark your site and have my children check up here oftentimes.
